So as the weather was beginning to look nicer and warmer, my wife began to hassle me about getting some new lawn care equipment for our new house. She had been harrassing me about this for some time, but February in the mid-west isn’t really the time where your lawn is the most important thing on your mind. None the less, I had the weekend free and it was time to head to the home improvement stores. (You know the one with the orange sign and the other with the blue sign)
I needed a couple of things before the mission was over. A lawn mower, a weed wacker and simple tools such as a rake and shovel. With no real bushes or sidewalks, I got to save a hedge trimmer and leaf blower.
I had my eyes on a certain brand of riding lawn mower. This was the biggest yard I had ever owned to date and I wanted to be “that guy” in the neighborhood with the best lawn mower. The problem was that I had no idea they cost that much. After sulking about it over lunch, I decided to go back and purchase the lawn mower of my dreams. Even though it was alot more money that I thought possible, I do love it yet today.
.
We’re I ran into a problem though was while shopping the weed wackers. Because I had spent to much money on the rider, I really didn’t have much money left. That’s when I seen the answer to my dreams however. There it was, it seemed perfect. It was just sitting there in its black color with some orange accents and it also had the word “decker” on it. (I know hard to figure it out!) Even more exciting, right next to it was a sign that says “Today Only Sale $24.95″
As the title suggests though, it was far from the answer to my dreams. If you get nothing else out of this blog, always remember to consider all other factors besides price when picking out your new weed wacker. Sure it was under $25, but its so small and lightweight that it was not powered or built to handle even my medium size grass yard. The biggest draw back this is lugging the cord all over the yard. My current extension cord did not reach to even 35% of my lawn and I was promptly on my way to the big orange store to get more cords. Even after getting all of that, there is still the issue of carrying it and 5 different cords it still doesn’t reach all of the yard.
Being a new homeowner I consider that my excuse, but it still doesn’t change the fact that 1 weed wacker and 5 extension cords later, I have almost the cost of a decent cordless weed wacker invested in something that simply doesn’t work for me. So do yourself a favor and consider all of your options before jumping on the cheapest weed wackers you can find.
